Great Advice For Buying Spill Containment Berms

Posted on: 4 June 2020

If you're involved in filling up machines with oil, then it's common for some oil to spill. You can prevent yourself from having a difficult cleanup when you invest in spill containment berms. There are a lot of them today, but you can have success finding the right ones thanks to this advice.

Opt For Portable Design

If your operations tend to vary in terms of location from day to day, then you don't want a spill containment berm that's difficult to move. This will only add stress to your plate, which can easily be avoided if you get a spill containment berm with a portable design.

As soon as you're done using portable spill containment berms, they can collapse down and then form into a compact structure. You thus don't have to struggle moving these berms around your work site. The portable design also makes these berms easier to store when they're not being used.

Make Sure The Walls Are Sturdy

While you're working on equipment that involves oil, you want your spill containment berms to hold up structurally. Otherwise, oil could leak out of them and then create a difficult mess that you'll then have to deal with.

You can avoid this fate by ensuring the containment berms have sturdy walls. They should have reinforcement mechanisms that enhance their stability. Even if you rub up against the walls or bump into them, they should remain in place and effectively keep oil inside.

Don't Forget About Drains

After you're done with the oil-related equipment and there is a bunch of oil left in the containment berms, you need a way to transfer this oil into a container. This won't be difficult if you get berms with drains at the bottom.

As soon as you're finished with your operations, you can position a specialized hose over this drain and then direct oil away from the berms. This is the easiest way of getting rid of the oil inside and won't lead to a difficult cleanup afterwards. You can then properly dispose of this oil in a safe and easy manner.

Spill containment berms are so important for machinery that tends to leak oil. If you plan on buying some for your work operations, make sure you get berms with the right features. Only then will they be easy to use and perform their assigned role of collecting oil and keeping it contained in an effective manner.
