A Tool That Will Streamline Wellbore Duties
Posted on: 11 March 2022
The casing inside of a wellbore is angular and narrow. Many drilling technicians perform a casing and drilling process simultaneously. This allows for maximum efficiency. Due to the sediment and slimy residue that a worker may encounter, a cleaning process may need to be performed during some casing and drilling sessions.
A Casing Scraper
A drilling technician will not know what type of blockages they may incur, until they are actively performing casing and drilling duties. An underground casing is subjected to the accumulation of limescale, rust, paraffin, and mud. Due to the depth of casing materials and the omission of sunlight, casing components are exposed to moisture and darkness on a consistent basis.
A scraper is a long, narrow tool that contains a motor. It contains tapered blades that are designed to fit inside of narrow casing sections. A pivoting head and adjustable motor speeds are supplied with many scraper models. A scraper is designed to be installed between a drill bit and a drill collar. This type of setup will allow a technician to maintain control of their equipment, without needing to manually hold onto a scraper separately.
As the casing and drilling is being conducted, hard or wet materials that are stuck on interior casing pieces will be extracted from surfaces. Clean surfaces will support adequate water or oil flow, depending upon which type of wellbore is being used. A casing scraper is equally effective in cleaning water well casings and oil well casings.
Casing Scraper Variables
Your casing and drilling equipment will need to fit the casing scraper attachment that is on the end of a scraper apparatus. A supplier sells scrapers that fit a wide range of wellbore equipment. The length and width of a casing scraper should be consistent with the size of the casing that will be treated. There will need to be enough room for the scraper, casing and drilling equipment to extend downward into the casing.
An inner wall casing scraper can be moved up and down or move from side to side. Since a scraper will be deep inside of a casing, you may not be able to visualize how the scraper is performing. For this reason, you may want to choose a model with a rotational head and rapid speed capabilities. A scraper will not damage casing materials. Although an abrasive surface will cut through built up sediment, it will not compromise the structure of a casing.
